About MakerGhat

MakerGhat (also known as Jagrit Research Foundation) is a Section 8 non-profit organization in India addressing the growing "educated unemployment" crisis, where 83% of unemployed youth possess secondary or higher education. The organization aims to provide underprivileged youth with access to quality skill-building resources through tinkering and hands-on training. By fostering a sense of agency and confidence among youth aged 12 to 18, MakerGhat helps them develop essential 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration.
Their goal is to cultivate the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds, enabling social and economic change in their communities. To date, MakerGhat has reached approximately one million youth across states including Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Kerala.

Daan Utsav Initiative

MakerGhat focuses on building the capacity of teachers to enhance 21st-century skills among youth in schools and colleges through tinkering. To facilitate this, the organization provides MakerKits, develops MakerSpaces, and customises curricula integrated with existing syllabi, enabling youth to critically think and solve problems in their communities. For Daan Utsav, MakerGhat is conducting a volunteer and fundraising campaign aimed at expanding into cities where they have received preliminary government approval.
